Shamrock Wreath

I usually do not decorate much for the smaller holidays like Saint Patrick's Day. However, with all the cute holiday craft supplies in the stores these days, I decided it would be fun to make a few Saint Patrick's Day things like this Shamrock Wreath. After all, green (and pink) is my favorite color! Since I try not to spend a lot of money for holiday decor that will only be used a few weeks each year, I wanted to design a craft that would be pretty, yet not break the bank.

I found these cute shamrocks at the Dollar Tree, which were my inspiration for this wreath. They come in a pack of 12 with half plain and half glittered. Michael's has similar ones if you can't find them at the Dollar Tree. For this project, only one pack is needed, but I used some from two packs for a variety of colors.

Have fun crafting!

You'll need:

-12 inch wood craft ring or cardboard cut into a 12 inch circle
-Green craft paint
-Foam shamrocks (approx. 12)
-Craft brush
-Wire
-Sheer green ribbon
-White wired edge ribbon
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
-Scissors

1. Paint a 12 inch craft ring green, and set it aside to dry. If you don't have a craft ring. cut a piece of cardboard in the shape of a ring and punch a small hole in the center of the wreath before painting it.

2. Once paint is dry, fold a small piece of wire in half to form a loop. Pinch the loop together and insert into one of the holes on the wreath. Then insert the loose ends into the loop and pull tightly. Double knot the loose ends and trim any excess wire. This makes a hanger for the wreath.

If you don't have any floral wire, a narrow piece of ribbon can be tied in the same way to form the hanger.

3. Glue foam shamrocks around the ring, overlapping the edges for interest and a bit of depth.

4. Make a pretty bow. I made mine by holding the green and white ribbon together when making the bow.

5. Glue bow wherever you like on the wreath. Your wreath is now ready to be enjoyed!

For someone who doesn't usually decorate for St. Patrick's Day, you sure put a lot of effort into this great wreath!!! This looks very professional and will last for years! Whether or not I do any decorating for St. Patrick's Day depends on what's going on around here. This year...probably not since it's so close to my Mom's birthday and I'm planning a luncheon for her.

Hi Shannon, your St. Patrick's Day wreath is so cute and easy enough that even I could probably make it. I am not much of a crafter but this one I think I will try. It would look nice on the mirror in my foyer.

Very cute - I don't usually decorate for it either, but am tempted to get crafty after seeing some of the lovely decorations on other people's blogs!
